Day 1: Arrival in Chennai and Transfer to Mahabalipuram

Arrive in Chennai and drive to Mahabalipuram (1.5 hours). Explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring rock-cut shore temples, massive bas-reliefs including "Arjuna's Penance," and the iconic Shore Temple facing the Bay of Bengal. Visit the Indian Seashell Museum showcasing rare shells from around the world. Evening cultural performance of Bharatanatyam classical dance at your beachside resort.

Day 2: Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry

Morning drive to Pondicherry (2 hours), the former French colony retaining distinct European character. Guided walking tour of French Quarter with its bougainvillea-lined streets and colonial buildings. Visit Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville international community. Evening heritage walk along the promenade facing the Bay of Bengal. Dinner featuring unique Franco-Tamil fusion cuisine.

Day 3: Pondicherry to Thanjavur

Drive to Thanjavur (5 hours), the ancient Chola capital. Afternoon visit to magnificent Brihadeeswarar Temple, a UNESCO site built in 1010 CE featuring a 66-meter vimana (tower) constructed without modern machinery. The temple houses remarkable Chola frescoes and a monolithic Nandi bull statue. Evening visit to Saraswati Mahal Library, one of Asia's oldest libraries housing rare palm leaf manuscripts.

Day 4: Thanjavur to Trichy

Morning visit to Royal Palace and Art Gallery housing exceptional Chola bronzes. Continue to a traditional bronze casting workshop to witness artisans creating sculptures using the lost-wax method unchanged for centuries. Drive to Trichy (1.5 hours). Afternoon visit to Rock Fort Temple complex built on an 83-meter monolithic rock, requiring 437 steps to reach the summit temple with panoramic city views. Evening visit to colorful Srirangam Temple, a massive 156-acre complex considered the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world.

Day 5: Trichy to Chennai and Departure

Morning exploration of Srirangam's outer prakarams (walls) and markets. Drive to Chennai (5-6 hours) or fly from Trichy. Brief city tour of Chennai including San Thome Basilica and Government Museum Bronze Gallery if time permits before departure.
